Sailors Sweep the Series: Newport Harbor Takes Down Fountain Valley in 6-4 Finale (2025)
Newport Beach – Stuart Fine Field (NHHS)
In a packed three-game series finale, Newport Harbor and Fountain Valley squared off in a Sunset League showdown on Friday afternoon. With both teams trading leads throughout, it was the Sailors who came through late to secure a 6-4 victory on their home field.
Newport Harbor got on the board in the first inning after Adam Martin doubled, scoring Ryan Williams. Fountain Valley responded quickly in the top of the second, capitalizing on two defensive miscues to put up a three-run frame. Isaac Grimaldo, Octavio Gomez, and Anthony Zamora each crossed the plate, giving the Barons a 3-1 lead and swinging momentum their way.
The Sailors answered in the bottom of the third. A Gavin Guy double brought home Adam Martin, and Grant Horsley followed with a single to left, scoring Guy to knot the game at 3-3. Tyler Peshke briefly reclaimed the lead for the Barons in the top of the fifth with a solo home run to center field, but Newport Harbor’s offense responded with authority in the bottom half.
Lucas Perez roped a double down the left field line to score Gavin Guy and tie the game. Moments later, Keoni Wun drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Jackson Stremick, and Ryan Williams was hit by a pitch to force in Wyatt Gahm. The Sailors never relinquished the lead again.
Despite the loss, Fountain Valley played clean defense and stayed competitive throughout. Ethan Cortez led the Barons with six chances in the field, and the team didn’t commit a single error on the day.
