Josh Grack Shuts Down Trabuco Hills as Fountain Valley Rolls Into Round 3 (2025)

Fountain Valley – Tom Hiroyasu Stadium

Fountain Valley punched its ticket to the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinals with a commanding 7-0 shutout over Trabuco Hills on Tuesday afternoon. The Barons came out swinging and never looked back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first to take immediate control. With clean execution, clutch at-bats, and seven shutout innings from senior Josh Grack on the mound, Fountain Valley delivered one of its most complete performances of the season.

The offensive fireworks began with a double off Grack’s bat to bring home Tony Zamora. Ethan Cortez followed with a productive groundout to plate Michael Patterson, and shortly after, Miles Hiskey ripped a single to left to score Isaac Lomeli and Grack, giving the Barons a 4-0 lead before Trabuco Hills had a chance to settle in.

Fountain Valley kept applying pressure in the second inning when Patterson laced a triple to left field, scoring Zamora once again. Grack then lifted a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Patterson to tag and score easily, stretching the lead to 6-0. The Barons tacked on one final run in the sixth on a Tony Zamora RBI single that brought home Drake Robinson.

While the bats were hot, the story of the game was Grack’s masterful outing on the mound. The senior right-hander was in complete control all afternoon, allowing just two hits across seven shutout innings while striking out five and walking only two. He pounded the strike zone and never let Trabuco’s offense get in rhythm.

With the win, Fountain Valley remains undefeated in the postseason and continues its deep playoff push behind a combination of elite pitching, timely hitting, and strong defensive play.

Pitching

Josh Grack was dominant on the hill for Fountain Valley, throwing a complete game shutout. He allowed only two hits, walked two, and struck out five over seven scoreless innings. He faced 25 batters on 90 pitches (60 for strikes), consistently working ahead in counts and forcing soft contact.

Mikey Gray took the loss for Trabuco Hills. Over five innings, Gray gave up six runs (two earned) on seven hits. He walked one and hit a batter but failed to record a strikeout. Josh Fitch threw the final inning in relief, giving up one earned run on two hits.

Batting

Fountain Valley racked up nine hits on the day. Michael Patterson had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI. Miles Hiskey also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the first inning.

Tony Zamora went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI, while Josh Grack contributed a double, two RBIs, and a sac fly. Isaac Lomeli added a single and a run, and Ethan Cortez had an RBI groundout to cap off the first-inning rally.

Trabuco Hills struggled to get anything going against Grack, collecting only two hits—both from Evan Hall. The Mustangs were shut out and held without a runner reaching third base all afternoon.

What’s next

Fountain Valley advances to the CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinals, where they’ll hit the road to face Torrance High School on Friday, May 23. The Barons will look to keep their postseason momentum alive as they battle for a spot in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Trabuco Hills sees its 2025 campaign come to a close, finishing the season with a hard-fought playoff appearance.
