Newport Harbor Earns First Win of the Season Against Lancaster (2025)

Newport Beach – Davidson Field (NHHS)

The Newport Harbor football team picked up its first win of the 2025 season beating Lancaster 42-26 on Friday at Davidson Field.

The Sailors scored first as Jake Meer found Jackson Stremick in the endzone on a 32-yard pass. The Eagles were driving and got to the Sailors’ red zone, but a fumbled handoff was recovered by Ryder Godbold and taken in for a touchdown, doubling the Sailors’ lead.

“Our coaches had us all very prepared coming into this game and so we all knew what to expect,” Stremick said.

Newport Harbor wasn’t done scoring in the first quarter, as Meer hit Stremick for a 26-yard touchdown pass on a 50/50 ball to make the score 21-0.

“He’s a great QB. He knows exactly where to put the ball and just knows how to pick defenses apart,” Stremick said about Meer.

Lancaster didn’t get on the board until close to halftime, as quarterback Michael Marsenich ran it in for a 57-yard touchdown run off a fake handoff. The extra point was blocked by Adam Csanyi.

With 2:48 left before halftime, that was enough time for the Sailors to score, especially after the Eagles’ kickoff went out of bounds. With 32 seconds before halftime, Meer found Owen Baldikowski on a three yard touchdown to give Newport Harbor a three score lead before halftime.

From there, Newport Harbor was in no danger the rest of the way, as their defense made sure Lancaster had no opportunity to mount a comeback.

The Sailors’ defense forced two turnovers and registered two sacks after not having one the previous week. Meer finished with 20 for 28 for 246 passing yards with four passing touchdowns while Stremick had seven catches for 112 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.

Newport Harbor is back in action Friday when it heads down to Fred Kelly Stadium to play El Modena at 7 p.m. The Vanguards’ two losses have come against Troy (35-21) and Dana Hills (30-14), as the Sailors look to get a little revenge after losing last year 55-35.
