Edison Pulls Away in Second Half to Blank Marina, Score 28-0 (2025)
Huntington Beach – Chargers Field (EHS)
The final score didn’t reflect the full story on Wednesday night, as Marina battled hard through the first half before Edison pulled away for a 28-0 win. The Vikings’ defense matched the Chargers stride-for-stride early, forcing turnovers on downs and nearly keeping the game scoreless at halftime.
The opening quarter showcased both teams’ defensive strength. Marina quarterback Delilah Meza helped move the ball into Edison territory, but the Chargers’ defense held strong. On the other side, Marina’s secondary came up with multiple pass breakups to keep Edison out of the end zone.
The second quarter looked destined to end scoreless as well, but Edison broke through just before halftime. After a scramble by the quarterback on 4th-and-long extended the drive, a double-pass trick play set the Chargers up inside the 10. Moments later, a short rushing touchdown gave Edison a 7-0 lead at the break.
The third quarter proved decisive. Edison’s balanced attack took control, scoring three unanswered touchdowns to stretch the lead to 28-0. Marina’s offense continued to find completions, with Meza finishing with 18 completions for 94 yards spread across six different receivers, but drives stalled under consistent pressure.
Edison’s offense found its rhythm after halftime, leaning on a balanced attack led by Sadie Olivares and Avea Niumata. Olivares rushed for two touchdowns, including the opening score in the second quarter, and added 21 yards receiving. Niumata was sharp through the air, throwing for 107 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Lexie Reynoso on a scoring strike and later hitting Addison Bond for another. Bond also contributed on special teams with a punt return, while Reynoso led the receiving corps with a 30-yard grab. Defensively, the Chargers spread the production, as Tegan Sjollema (six tackles, one interception) anchored the unit along with Katelyn Chantha (six tackles) and Preslee Thomas (four tackles). The all-around effort powered Edison to its 28-0 win, their third straight victory at home.
The Viking defense had standout moments despite the score. Jolie Densmore intercepted a pass and added three tackles, while Rylee Bradley led with six tackles. Emma Prelle also contributed six stops and a pass defended, and Hannah Meyer notched a sack. Alice Sheldon broke up three passes to anchor the secondary.
On special teams, Densmore punted five times for 167 yards, helping flip the field. Offensively, Bradley paced the receivers with 31 yards, while Prelle, Nguyen, and Densmore combined for 57 yards on short gains.
Ultimately, Marina’s early defensive effort wasn’t enough to contain Edison’s second-half surge. The Vikings fall to 2-7, while Edison improves to 7-3 with their third straight home victory.
