Marina Shows Fight, Falls Short Against Los Alamitos, Score 20-0 (2025)

Huntington Beach – Vikings Field (MHS)

Marina showed flashes on both sides of the ball Tuesday night but couldn’t overcome turnovers and missed tackles, falling to Los Alamitos 20-0 in Sunset League play.

The Vikings opened the game with promise, as quarterback Delilah Meza extended the first drive with multiple runs to move the chains. However, an interception stalled the momentum and gave the Griffins new life. Marina’s defense made several key stands, stopping Los Alamitos on two 4th-down attempts, but a missed tackle late in the first quarter turned into a 40-yard touchdown run to put LA ahead 7-0.

In the second quarter, another interception gave the Griffins short field position, which they converted into their second touchdown to extend the lead to 13-0. Both teams traded stops in the third quarter, with Marina’s defense continuing to pressure the quarterback and contain the run game.

The Vikings nearly broke through in the fourth quarter, driving deep into Los Alamitos territory, but were stopped on 4th down just shy of the end zone. Los Alamitos capitalized once more before the game ended, sealing the 20-0 final.

Meza finished with 134 passing yards on 18 passes, including a 25-yard strike to Rylee Bradley, and added 29 rushing yards on 11 carries. Bradley was a two-way standout, catching three passes for 41 yards while also leading the defense with nine tackles. Jolie Densmore hauled in nine receptions for 56 yards and added five tackles on defense.

On defense, Hannah Meyer anchored the pass rush with three sacks, while Matilda Nguyen collected six tackles and added a 10-yard punt return. Alice Sheldon chipped in with four tackles and two pass breakups.

Despite the loss, Marina’s defense kept the game within reach for three quarters, showing grit against one of the league’s faster offenses.
