San Clemente Shocks Unbeaten Los Alamitos with Alpha League Upset, Score 28-9 (2025)
San Clemente – Thalassa Stadium (SCHS)
Los Alamitos entered Friday night’s Alpha League matchup as one of Orange County’s last remaining unbeaten teams, but San Clemente’s physical defense and clock-controlling offense proved too much as the Griffins fell 28–9 at Thalassa Stadium.
The Griffins (8–1, 1–1) started fast with a defensive safety on the opening series, then took an early lead in the second quarter when Lenny Ibarra punched in a 6-yard touchdown run. From there, though, Los Alamitos’ offense struggled to find rhythm against a relentless San Clemente front.
Despite the loss, quarterback Colin Creason remained efficient, completing 18 of 26 passes for 182 yards, while Ibarra led both the ground and air attack — rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown and adding eight receptions for 105 yards. Junior receiver Bodie Hofland hauled in four catches for 38 yards, and Lukas Swietlikowski contributed 26 receiving yards.
Defensively, Los Alamitos continued to show flashes of the dominance that defined their 8–0 start. Senior linebacker Logan Moore recorded multiple tackles and a sack, while Jaden Howze, Kainoa Marasco, and Hunter Eligon combined for 23 total tackles. As a unit, the Griffins held San Clemente to under 100 rushing yards and forced four punts, but untimely penalties and missed third-down stops proved costly.
Statistically, Los Alamitos still holds some of the top offensive marks in Orange County. Through nine games, the Griffins have now totaled 3,208 yards of offense (1,710 rushing, 1,498 passing), with Creason up to 1,474 passing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. Ibarra remains a key two-way contributor, leading the team in rushing yards (535), receiving yards (484), and total tackles (82).
For San Clemente (5–4, 1–1), sophomore quarterback Preston Beck made the most of his first home start, throwing for 181 yards and three touchdowns, all to Jaxson Rex, who finished with 112 receiving yards.
Los Alamitos now turns its attention to a massive regular-season finale against top-ranked Mission Viejo on Thursday night, a matchup that will likely determine the Alpha League title and CIF-SS playoff seeding.
