Beckman Clinches Lambda League Title with Win Over Marina, Score 21-14 (2025)
Tustin – Patriot Stadium (BHS)
Beckman closed out the regular season by clinching the Lambda League championship Friday night, defeating Marina 21–14 in a hard-fought defensive battle at Tustin High School. The Patriots (7-3, 5-0) finished league play undefeated and enter the CIF-SS playoffs riding a six-game winning streak, while Marina fell to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.
The Vikings and Patriots went into halftime tied 7–7 after exchanging early touchdowns. Beckman struck first when quarterback Jack Titchenal led a short red-zone drive capped by a touchdown pass to Eli Smith. Marina answered late in the first half, as quarterback Owen Meet connected with Cole Ditteaux for a score to even things up heading into the break.
In the second half, Beckman’s defense made the difference. The Patriots took the lead on a powerful touchdown run from Noah Byrnes in the third quarter and then extended it when Smith hauled in his second touchdown of the game on another pass from Titchenal.
Marina’s offense threatened multiple times in the fourth quarter, but Beckman’s defense stood tall. Xavier Musselman-Cano came up with two critical interceptions in Patriot territory to halt Viking drives, and Rian Silva sealed the win with a sack deep in Marina territory after a potential late-game turnover by Beckman.
“Defense was the key tonight,” said Beckman coach Ken Hyduke postgame. “We knew Marina could make plays through the air, so we emphasized discipline and tackling. Our guys delivered when it mattered most.”
Marina’s offense showed flashes throughout the night behind Meet’s quick passing game, while Nathan Stevens and Liam Baranowski powered the ground attack. But costly turnovers and missed opportunities inside Beckman territory proved too much to overcome.
With the victory, Beckman locks up the Lambda League title and will host La Mirada in the opening round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs. Marina, finishing third in the league, now turns its attention to a potential road matchup at Palm Desert.
