Corona del Mar’s Offense Goes Cold in the Fourth, Falls to St. John Bosco (42-70)

Maxwell Scott kept Corona del Mar in the fight as long as anyone could. He finished with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, but the Sea Kings couldn’t sustain enough offensive momentum against St. John Bosco, falling 42–70 on Friday night.

The first half was competitive enough. Corona del Mar trailed 18–14 after one quarter — Scott doing much of the heavy lifting offensively, with Luke Mirhashemi contributing eight points and three assists to keep things moving. The second quarter was nearly a mirror image of the first, with St. John Bosco outscoring the Sea Kings 19–12 to push the halftime lead to 37–26. Oliver Nakra’s three assists showed Corona del Mar was generating looks; the problem was finishing them, as Nakra went 2-of-9 from the field and the team struggled to consistently convert.

The third quarter offered some hope. Corona del Mar actually held St. John Bosco to its lowest scoring quarter of the night, keeping pace at 11–13. But the fourth quarter is where the game got away from them. St. John Bosco exploded for 20 points while the Sea Kings managed just five — a cold stretch that stretched the final margin. Ryan Mansouri couldn’t get one to fall, going 0-of-5 from the field including 0-of-4 from three-point range. Nolan Scott didn’t score but provided a spark on the defensive end, pulling down four rebounds and recording two steals.

The 28-point final margin doesn’t reflect how the first three quarters played out, but that fourth-quarter scoring drought is something Corona del Mar will need to address. With the Sunset League schedule still in play, the Sea Kings will look to bounce back and regain their footing as league competition heats up down the stretch.
