Nakra’s Seven Threes Power Corona del Mar Past Carlsbad (59-48)

Oliver Nakra dropped a game-high 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting from three-point range, and Corona del Mar’s dominant first quarter set the tone in a 59-48 win over Carlsbad.

The Sea Kings buried Carlsbad early. CdM outscored the Lancers 18-7 in the first quarter, building a double-digit cushion before halftime. Maxwell Scott was efficient throughout, finishing with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Luke Mirhashemi ran the offense with a steady hand, finishing with nine assists against just three turnovers on the night. Caden Sanchez and Aiden Cole each grabbed six-plus rebounds and contributed defensively, Cole adding two blocks and two steals.

Carlsbad briefly found a rhythm in the second quarter, edging CdM 10-9 to cut slightly into the lead, but the Sea Kings responded in the third. Corona del Mar outscored Carlsbad 17-14 in the third and 15-15 in the fourth to close it out. Nakra’s three-point shooting kept the defense honest all night — his seven threes gave CdM the spacing to get Scott and Mirhashemi downhill. Scott added five assists of his own to complement Mirhashemi’s playmaking.

Cole went a perfect 2-of-2 from the field and finished with seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks — the kind of quiet, complete line that doesn’t show up in the scoring column but matters in the final margin. Nakra’s 21 points led all scorers.
