Nakra’s 23-Point Night Powers Corona del Mar Past Newport Harbor Behind a 16-Point Third Quarter (70-42)

Corona del Mar topped Newport Harbor 70–42, with Oliver Nakra’s 23-point night headlining a third quarter that effectively closed the game out. The Sea Kings outscored the Sailors by 16 in the third period alone, turning a manageable halftime gap into an insurmountable one.

The first half set the tone, though Newport Harbor stayed competitive through one quarter. The Sailors got three points from Antonio Hatziris and a bucket each from Marcel Aguilar and Owen Saukkola in the opening period, but Corona del Mar’s Maxwell Scott got going early with six points and three rebounds in the first quarter to help the Sea Kings open a nine-point lead. The second quarter belonged to Nakra, who added eight points on 2-of-3 shooting, while Luke Mirhashemi hit a three-pointer to keep the offense humming. Aguilar answered with five second-quarter points for Newport Harbor, and Saukkola knocked down a three — but five first-half turnovers from Saukkola proved costly, and the Sailors headed to halftime down 34–18.

The third quarter is where the margin stretched. Nakra went 4-of-4 from the field and 3-of-3 from three in the period for 11 points, and Mirhashemi — who finished with eight assists — dished out five of them in that quarter alone. Ryan Mansouri added five more third-quarter points for CdM, and Aiden Cole and Caden Sanchez each hit a three. The Sea Kings outscored Newport Harbor by 16 in the period. Aguilar and Saukkola each posted five third-quarter points to keep Newport Harbor in the fight statistically, and both players finished as the Sailors’ leading scorers — Saukkola with 14 and Aguilar with 13. Newport Harbor actually won the fourth quarter 12–10, with Leyton Torribio knocking down a three and Grant Appleby scoring two, but the deficit was already too deep.

Cole finished a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three, while Mansouri went 3-of-6 from deep for 11 points. For Newport Harbor, Oliver Aguero quietly contributed five rebounds and three assists despite not scoring, and the Sailors showed some fight by closing the fourth quarter on the right side of the ledger. The final margin was 28.
