Newport Harbor Scores Early and Often to stay Unbeaten in Epsilon League
Aliso Viejo – The Newport Harbor football team continued its winning ways in a
big way, as it beat Aliso Niguel 56-7 on Friday at Aliso Niguel High School to
win its fourth straight game.
The Sailors’ first three drives all started either at midfield or in Wolverines
territory. And on each drive, Newport Harbor managed to get touchdowns
courtesy of Jordan Spigarelli leading the offense down the field.
Aliso Niguel had a promising drive going in the opening frame, as they got
down to the Newport Harbor 18. But the drive ended with Ben Stremick
registering an interception to give his team the ball back.
After the Wolverines forced a three and out, they got the ball right inside the
Sailors’ territory. Eventually, Devin Williams got Aliso Niguel on the board with a
short touchdown run.
That proved to be the only score for the Wolverines in the contest, as Newport
Harbor made sure they didn’t score the rest of the way. The seven points were
the fewest points Aliso Niguel had scored this season, marking the second time
that it had been held to that total.
The Sailors on the other hand had little to no problems scoring, as this game
marked the second straight game they surpassed 50 or more and it marked the
fourth time during the win streak that they surpassed 40 or more points.
Spigarelli threw for six touchdowns and 0 interceptions, as he had five in the
first half alone, He also only finished with three incompletions, giving him more
touchdowns than incompletions.
Newport Harbor is back in action Thursday when it hosts Brea Olinda at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats fell to Foothill 20-15 in their most recent Epsilon League game.
