Ayala’s Three Touchdowns Lead San Juan Hills Past Newport Harbor, Score 47-10 (2025)

Newport Beach – Davidson Field (NHHS)

San Juan Hills (6–2) dominated from start to finish Friday night, exploding for 31 first-quarter points and cruising to a 47–10 victory over Newport Harbor (2–6). Behind a career night from Elijah Ayala and a near-perfect performance by Timmy Herr, the Stallions overwhelmed the Sailors in all three phases to earn their second straight win.

The first quarter was a nightmare for Newport Harbor, as the Stallions’ offense and defense struck early and often. Ayala opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run before the defense added two points on a safety. Herr then connected with Ryan Matheson for a 30-yard touchdown and found Cooper Chila on a 3-yard pass minutes later. Ayala capped off the explosive quarter with another 30-yard touchdown run to make it 31–0.

San Juan Hills didn’t slow down in the second quarter. The Stallions forced another safety to go up 33–0, then added two more rushing scores — a 1-yard plunge and a 40-yard sprint from Ayala, his third of the night — giving them a commanding 47–0 lead by halftime.

Newport Harbor showed resilience in the second half, breaking the shutout in the third quarter when quarterback Jake Meer found Ty Ditteaux for a 24-yard touchdown. The Sailors added a 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome San Juan Hills’ early onslaught.

Ayala was unstoppable, finishing with 102 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries, along with 16 receiving yards. Herr was sharp under center, completing 8 of 9 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, spreading the ball to eight different receivers. Matheson led the group with 71 yards and a touchdown, while Dean Kolasinski and Luke Frith combined for 57 more yards.

Defensively, San Juan Hills was relentless, recording four interceptions, including two from Carter Peterson, one from Miles Meltzer, and another from Corton Cerillo. The unit also forced a fumble, notched multiple tackles for loss, and held the Sailors to just 225 total yards.

Newport Harbor’s Jordan Spigarelli led the Sailors offensively, throwing for 142 yards and a touchdown while adding 52 yards on the ground. Ditteaux caught three passes for 41 yards and the lone touchdown.

With the win, San Juan Hills improved to 6–2 and continues to gain momentum entering their matchup with Villa Park next Friday. Newport Harbor, meanwhile, will look to bounce back at home against Yorba Linda.
