Barnett’s Big Day and Griffin Arms Power Los Alamitos Past Newport Harbor, 10–0 (2025)

Los Alamitos – Griffins Field

Los Alamitos put together a complete performance on Thursday afternoon, blanking visiting Newport Harbor 10–0 in a league matchup that proved the Griffins’ depth on the mound and discipline at the plate.

The game started quietly for both teams, but Los Alamitos broke through in the bottom of the first. After Cade Barnett singled and advanced to third on an error, he came around to score on another miscue, giving the Griffins an early 1–0 lead. The hosts tacked on two more in the second, thanks to a combination of errors and a two-RBI single by Devin Porch that brought home James Reveles and Cruz D’Errico.

Los Alamitos did it again in the fourth, adding a run as Rowan Shelley scored on a sacrifice bunt by James Reveles following two walks and a passed ball. Cruz D’Errico advanced to third, but the inning ended with a fly out, holding the lead at 4–0.

Newport Harbor still could not get anything moving, as the Griffins continued to break the game open in the fifth, plating three more runs. Wyatt Joyce landed a triple, scoring Cade Barnett and Tyler Smith, scoring himself a couple plays later from a Rowan Shalley sacrifice fly.

The sixth inning saw continued offensive pressure and finally sealed it. Los Alamitos put two runners on as Brooks Bergeron walked and Devin Porch was hit by a pitch. Both advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Cade Barnett then drove a triple to right, bringing in Bergeron and Porch. Tyler Smith followed with an RBI groundout, scoring Barnett to make it 10–0.

Newport Harbor struggled to find momentum offensively, collecting only three hits in the game. Despite a pair of early singles from Wyatt Gahm and Henry Mann, the Sailors were unable to advance runners past second base and grounded into two double plays.

With a strong mix of consistent hitting, aggressive baserunning, and clean defense, the Griffins conclude their series with Newport Harbor, ending at 2-1 Los Alamitos.

Pitching

Hudson Binder earned the win for Los Alamitos, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. Ryan McKemy followed with 2.1 shutout innings and two strikeouts. Logan Anderson and Ethan Maddies each added a scoreless frame, combining for three strikeouts.

On the Newport Harbor side, Lucas Perez started and allowed five runs (two earned) in four innings while striking out one. Tyler Clark and Noah Whittaker each pitched an inning in relief, both striking out one as well.

Batting

Cade Barnett led the way offensively for Los Alamitos, delivering two triples, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Wyatt Joyce nailed two RBIs, and Devin Porch added a two-RBI single in the second inning. Tyler Smith and James Reveles both scored once and had a hit as well.

For Newport Harbor, Wyatt Gahm recorded two of the team’s three hits. Henry Mann added the third with a single in the third inning.

What’s next

Los Alamitos will look to keep the momentum rolling against the national titans, Huntington Beach, as they continue league play next week, building on back-to-back shutout outings. Newport Harbor has a week to regroup and get back in the win column in their next matchup series against Fountain Valley, focusing on offensive adjustments and limiting defensive errors.
