Corona del Mar Builds 18-Point Halftime Lead, Holds Off Fountain Valley’s Second-Half Push (64-46)

Corona del Mar built an 18-point halftime lead and never let Fountain Valley back into it, beating the Barons 64-46 behind 19 points from Maxwell Scott and a balanced scoring effort that stretched eight players deep.

The Sea Kings were sharp from the jump. Scott put up 10 first-half points on 4-of-6 shooting, and Luke Mirhashemi matched him with 10 of his own on 3-of-4 from the field. Oliver Nakra added 7, and Caden Sanchez chipped in 5 — all with clean efficiency. By halftime, Corona del Mar led 35-17, an 18-point cushion built quarter by quarter: up 8 after one, up 10 more in the second.

Fountain Valley got the better of the third quarter, outscoring CdM 17-11, trimming into the lead with Maxwell Scott going 2-of-5 from the field. But the Sea Kings closed it out emphatically. Nakra went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in the fourth and finished with 13 points for the game, and Nolan Scott knocked down his only three-point attempt of the night to salt it away. Mirhashemi, who didn’t score in the second half, still contributed — he finished with 5 assists, four of them in the third quarter alone, keeping the offense organized through Fountain Valley’s run.

Scott’s 19-point, 7-rebound night led the way, and the 18-point final margin reflected how thoroughly CdM controlled the game’s first 16 minutes.
