Corona del Mar’s Third-Quarter Stranglehold Buries Fountain Valley (70-47)

Maxwell Scott put up 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, and a dominant third quarter did the rest. Corona del Mar beat Fountain Valley 70-47, outscoring the Barons 24-5 in the third to turn a tight halftime game into a runaway.

The Sea Kings jumped out fast, building an 18-9 lead after one quarter behind Scott’s early efficiency. But Fountain Valley flipped the script in the second, outscoring CdM 22-12 to pull within two at halftime. Oliver Nakra knocked down three of his eight three-point attempts and finished with 11, while Ryan Mansouri added 9 on 4-of-6 shooting — but it was still a one-possession game heading into the break.

Then the third quarter happened. Corona del Mar held Fountain Valley to just five points over eight minutes — a 24-5 blitz that put the game away before the fourth even started. Scott did the heavy lifting offensively, but this was also a collective effort: Luke Mirhashemi and Maxwell Scott combined for eight assists on the night, keeping the ball moving as the offense clicked into another gear. Nolan Scott chipped in 8 points on a perfect 4-of-5 from the field, and Caden Sanchez and Mansouri each pulled down four rebounds to help control the glass. Aiden Cole added a block; the defense smothered any momentum Fountain Valley tried to manufacture.

The fourth was business as usual — CdM outscored the Barons 16-11 to close it out. Maxwell Scott finished with four assists and three steals to go with his 21 points, and Nakra’s 3-of-8 from three was the second-leading scoring line on the night.
