Edison Bounces Back with Shutout Win over Lakewood, Score 31-0 (2025)

Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Stadium (HBHS)

The Edison football team returned to the win column with a 31-0 win over Lakewood on Friday at Huntington Beach High.

After suffering a tough loss against Yorba Linda last week, the Chargers shut out the Lancers, handing them their second straight shutout loss. The Chargers also shut out an opponent in the regular season for the first time since 2023 when it shut out Leuzinger 17-0.

After Lakewood punted following its first drive, Edison went to work, getting all the way down to the Lancers’ 26. After quarterback Sam Thomson took a sack, he and his team went for it on fourth down and got the touchdown, as he found Matthew Auau for the score.

“I just love the energy he brings. He just has that quarterback aura,” Auau said about Thomson.

Thomson and Auau would connect two more times throughout the night, as Auau finished with three receptions for 90 yards and three touchdowns Sam Edmistton had the other touchdown on a one-yard wildcat formation while Crue Bradshaw booted in a 31-yard field goal.

Defensively, the Chargers were stout, as they got to Lakewood quarterback Kade Casillas early and often. Casillas did take three big hits, which eventually led to Aidan Kautsky playing mainly in the second half.

Kautsky did have some nice throws, but one of his throws was picked off by Jordan Pelaez, who recorded an interception for the second straight week.

“I just knew it was coming. They ran [the ball] three times before that, so I knew where it was going to go,” Pelaez said.

Overall, it was a great night for the Chargers, who also celebrated its salute to service night before the game started to those that served in the military.

Edison won’t be back home until October 24 when it hosts Mission Viejo. Its next game is Friday when it plays at Palos Verdes at 3:30 p.m.

Much like the Chargers, the Sea Kings won the CIF Southern Section and State Championship last year. The Chargers beat the Sea Kings last season 41-7 at Cap Sheue Field.
