Edison Extends Battle for the Bell Win Streak to 21 Over Fountain Valley, Score 34-7 (2025)
Costa Mesa – LeBard Stadium (OCC)
The annual “Battle for the Bell” brought plenty of energy to Orange Coast College’s LeBard Stadium on Friday night, but once again Edison walked away with the hardware. The Chargers dominated from the opening whistle, rolling to a 34-7 win over Fountain Valley for their 21st straight victory in the rivalry. Edison has not lost to the Barons since 2004, and the streak now stretches nearly two decades.
The Chargers leaned heavily on their backfield duo of Sam Edmisten and Anthony Godinez, who combined for 167 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Edmisten, wearing No. 9 to honor former Edison standout Julius Gillick, scored twice on the ground, while Godinez added two more short-yardage touchdowns to keep the momentum firmly in Edison’s corner.
Edison (4-1) wasted little time imposing its will. On the opening drive, the Chargers put together a 14-play, 80-yard march capped by Edmisten’s 1-yard plunge. The next possession showcased Godinez, who carried the ball seven times on the drive and finished with a 7-yard score. From there, Edison’s offense kept clicking. Quarterback Sam Thomson delivered a 14-yard touchdown strike to Maddox Thomas, and Godinez added a 6-yard run to give the Chargers a commanding 27-0 halftime lead.
Thomson, steady throughout, completed 13 of 18 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown before turning the game over to the reserves late in the third quarter. “To keep the streak going with this group of guys, it’s just a blessing,” Thomson said afterward.
The Chargers’ defense also had plenty to do with the win. Edison limited Fountain Valley (1-4) to just three first downs in the first half, two of which came via penalties. The Barons’ special teams struggled as well, with two punts netting just seven yards and gifting Edison excellent field position. Jordan Pelaez, Conrad Barrera, and Devyn Blake each registered sacks, while linebacker Ashton Godley was consistently disruptive.
Fountain Valley managed to avoid a shutout thanks to Sam Garza, who scored on a 2-yard run with 11 seconds left in the game. Garza finished with 52 yards on 18 carries, accounting for the bulk of the Barons’ offensive production.
Edison now turns its attention to a road matchup at La Serna on Friday, while Fountain Valley heads into a bye week before opening league play against Orange on October 2.
