Guy Nearly Carries Newport Harbor to Victory Before Huntington Beach’s Last-Inning Walk-Off (2025)
Huntington Beach – Oilers Field
Huntington Beach walked it off in dramatic fashion to hand Newport Harbor a tough 4-2 loss on Tuesday afternoon. The Sailors led 2-0 heading into the final frame, but a seventh-inning spike from the Oilers flipped the script in front of a lively home crowd.
Newport Harbor jumped ahead in the third inning, capitalizing on Gavin Guy’s RBI single to right that brought home Keoni Wun for a 1-0 lead. The Sailors extended that advantage in the top of the sixth when Guy came through again, launching a solo shot to left field — to then make it 2-0.
But the Oilers responded in their final at-bat. A leadoff single by Cole Clark scored Ethan Porter, cutting the deficit to one. Then, with two runners on and one out, Jared Grindlinger delivered the decisive blow — a three-run homer to straightaway center that sealed the dream comeback win for Huntington Beach, plating Dane Cunningham and Cole Clark.
The Sailors were held to just two hits on the afternoon, both by Guy, who accounted for both RBIs as well. Despite the loss, Newport Harbor played intense defense with no errors and turned one double play, while catcher Lucas Perez recorded a game-high nine putouts behind the dish.

Batting
Guy led the offensive effort for Newport Harbor, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and both of the team’s RBIs — including a solo home run in the sixth. Keoni Wun reached base and scored in the third inning after a walk and heads-up base-running on Guy’s RBI single. For the Oilers, Jared Grindlinger’s three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh was the difference maker. Cole Clark added a clutch RBI single earlier in the inning and finished 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored and one driven in. Ethan Porter and courtesy runner Dane Cunningham also crossed the plate in the final inning.
