Huntington Beach Closes Regular Season with Win Over El Dorado, Score 27-14 (2025)
Placentia – Bradford Stadium (YLHS)
Huntington Beach closed out the regular season on a high note Friday night, defeating El Dorado 27–14 in the Epsilon League finale at Bradford Stadium. With the win, the Oilers finish 8–2 overall and 4–1 in league play, securing the league’s No. 2 guaranteed playoff berth in the CIF Southern Section.
After both teams traded punts early, Huntington Beach struck first midway through the opening quarter. Quarterback Brady Edmunds capped an 8-play, 42-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Steel Kurtz, putting the Oilers ahead 7–0.
El Dorado answered in the second quarter as Hudson Shaddow found Luke Tucker for a 9-yard score to tie the game 7–7. But the Oilers responded immediately with an 11-play, 75-yard march, finished off by a 3-yard touchdown run from Xavier Atkinson, giving Huntington Beach a 14–7 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Oilers extended their advantage when Troy Foster hauled in a 66-yard touchdown strike from Edmunds. The play marked Foster’s 21st career touchdown reception, moving him within 21 yards of Los Alamitos legend Tony Hartley (3,181) for No. 2 all-time in Orange County career receiving yards.
Special teams sealed the game early in the fourth quarter when Jimmel Champion recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 27–7. El Dorado added a late touchdown on a 5-yard run by Alonzo Anguiano, but the Huntington Beach defense held strong the rest of the way.
Edmunds finished an efficient 15-of-24 passing for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Foster led all receivers with six catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Kurtz added five receptions for 40 yards and a score. The Oilers’ defense was anchored by Pierce Meckel and Nikko LaShelle, who each tallied five tackles, and Johnny Yadrick, who added one of the team’s two sacks.
With the victory, Huntington Beach caps its best regular season since 2011 and will open the CIF Division 3 playoffs next week against Edison in a Sunset League rivalry.
