Los Alamitos Avenges Last Year’s Loss With Dominate Win Over Serra, Score 41-20 (2025)

Los Angeles – Cougar Stadium (LASC)

Los Alamitos flipped the script on Serra Friday night, turning last year’s running-clock loss into a decisive 41-20 victory at L.A. Southwest College. The Griffins (4-0) jumped on the Cavaliers early, then used a nine-point swing before halftime to seize control of the nonleague matchup.

The opening drive set the tone as running back Kamden Tillis capped a 65-yard march with a 2-yard touchdown run. After Serra answered with a 12-yard scoring run to make it 7-6, quarterback Colin Creason found Beckham Hofland on a 13-yard strike to regain the lead. Tillis added another short touchdown run in the second quarter for a 19-6 advantage.

Serra cut it to 19-13 on Nicolas Johnson’s second rushing touchdown, but the game changed in the final minute of the first half. A muffed punt by Serra rolled into the end zone, where Gavin Vera and the Griffins’ coverage unit swarmed for a safety. On the ensuing possession, Creason rolled right and hit Lenny Ibarra on a 45-yard jump ball over two defenders. Ibarra finished with five catches for 96 yards and the highlight touchdown, pushing Los Alamitos to a 28-13 halftime lead.

“That really is a tipping point,” coach Ray Fenton said. “Like he always does, Lenny shows up with a big play and gets us in the end zone.”

The defense put the game away in the third quarter. Senior Jackson Renger scooped up a fumble and rumbled 45 yards for a touchdown, and Creason added a 3-yard keeper after Caeson Miller’s interception to extend the lead to 41-13. Serra managed one more rushing touchdown but never seriously threatened again.

Creason finished 9 of 16 for 159 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a score. Tillis carried 23 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns, giving him six on the season. Ibarra led all receivers with 96 yards, and Hofland added three catches for 23 yards and a score.

The Griffins’ defense forced four turnovers, including two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, and held Serra to 233 total yards.

“We’re battling and in the fight and we get a break,” Fenton said. “That nine-point swing was huge. Last year they running clocked us, so to come back and do this shows what kind of team we have.”

Los Alamitos (4-0) will look to stay unbeaten when it returns home next week. Serra (2-1) faces a challenging stretch against Orange Lutheran, Oaks Christian, and Sierra Canyon in Mission League play.
