Los Alamitos Beats St Paul and Stays Unbeaten Behind Ibarra’s 243 Yards, 3 Touchdowns, Score 48-20 (2025)
Los Alamitos – John Barnes Field (LAHS)
Lenny Ibarra once again proved to be the engine of the Los Alamitos football team, powering the Griffins to a 48-20 win over St. Paul on Friday night.
Ibarra, who will continue his career at Army West Point, racked up 243 total yards and three touchdowns, breaking loose for a 56-yard score on the Griffins’ second play from scrimmage and adding 15- and 8-yard rushing touchdowns in the second quarter. By halftime, he had already rushed for 144 yards as Los Al (5-0) built a commanding 34-7 lead.
“He plays with all the grit and determination of the kids who go to West Point,” head coach Ray Fenton said. “Our biggest thing with him is trying to get him some rest.”
Quarterback Colin Creason contributed with 126 passing yards and a rushing touchdown, while Kamden Tillis added 102 rushing yards and a 20-yard touchdown. Ashton Gogue caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Creason, and linebacker Jackson Renger scooped up a fumble in the end zone for a defensive score.
The Griffins’ defense was just as dominant as the offense. Los Al forced five turnovers, including four fumble recoveries and Ibarra’s 40-yard interception return that set up another Tillis touchdown. Renger and linebacker Logan Moore also helped lead the defensive front with multiple tackles for loss.
St. Paul (0-4) showed flashes, closing the gap to 14-7 early in the second quarter on a 10-yard touchdown pass, and later adding a 39-yard rushing score and a 6-yard run in the fourth. But turnovers and Los Al’s relentless tempo proved too much to overcome.
“That is way different than 27-14, and that was really the turning point in the game,” Fenton said of Ibarra’s late first-half touchdown following a fumble recovery. “Any time you turn the ball over, you cut your chances of winning in half, and we took advantage.”
With Ibarra leading the way, Los Alamitos remains unbeaten heading into the heart of its nonleague schedule, looking every bit like one of the county’s most balanced and dangerous teams.
