Maxwell Scott Drops a Double-Double as Corona del Mar Throttles Faith Lutheran (74-59)

Maxwell Scott was everywhere. The junior finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, and four steals, and Corona del Mar used a dominant opening quarter to pull away from Faith Lutheran and cruise to a 74-57 win.

The Sea Kings came out of the gate locked in, outscoring Faith Lutheran 19-8 in the first quarter and never letting the Crusaders get comfortable. Scott did damage both inside and outside — going 11-of-20 from the field and knocking down three of five three-pointers — while Luke Mirhashemi ran the offense and finished with nine assists. Caden Sanchez was surgical in limited attempts, shooting 4-of-5 from the field including a three-pointer, adding 13 points and three assists by the time the night was done. Faith Lutheran responded with a 19-19 second quarter to tighten things up at the half, but CdM’s first-quarter cushion stayed intact.

The Sea Kings didn’t let the Crusaders’ second-quarter momentum carry over. Corona del Mar won the third period 18-15 and closed it out with an 18-17 fourth, never giving Faith Lutheran a real opening to make a run. Oliver Nakra came alive from deep, hitting three of nine three-pointers on his way to 15 points and adding two blocks. Ryan Mansouri chipped in eight points, and Aiden Cole contributed four points and a pair of blocks off the bench. CdM shot efficiently enough to keep the margin comfortable through the final buzzer.

The final margin tells the story — a 17-point win over a program like Faith Lutheran is a legitimate statement. Where this result fits into the Sea Kings’ larger season picture remains to be seen, but a performance like this, led by a player having a Scott-level night on both ends, gives Corona del Mar plenty of reason to feel good about where this team is headed.
