Maxwell Scott’s Double-Double Powers Corona del Mar Past Monterey Trail in an 83-60 Win

Maxwell Scott put up 31 points and 11 rebounds — a dominant double-double — and Corona del Mar never let Monterey Trail get within striking distance, pulling away for an 83-60 win.

Scott set the tone early, and the Sea Kings built a 37-23 halftime lead by controlling the pace on both ends. He finished the first half with the bulk of his damage on 14-of-22 shooting from the field, exploiting every gap Monterey Trail’s defense left open. Oliver Nakra chipped in 16 to give CdM a reliable second scoring option, while Aiden Cole went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field — hitting both his three-point attempts — for eight points without ever forcing a shot. Luke Mirhashemi ran the offense cleanly, distributing seven assists on the night.

The third quarter is where it got away from Monterey Trail for good. Corona del Mar outscored them 27-15, extending a manageable halftime margin into a 64-38 advantage. Hudson Wagner added seven off the bench, Caden Sanchez grabbed five rebounds and contributed five points, and Ryan Mansouri chipped in five points and three assists while doing the connective work that kept the offense humming. Monterey Trail showed some life in the fourth quarter, outscoring CdM 22-19, but the Sea Kings were long past needing a response.

Scott’s 31-point, 11-rebound night is the one line that defines this game — he shot 64 percent from the field and did it against a non-league opponent with no margin for excuse.
