Meza Delivers Four Touchdowns in a Marina Win Against Fountain Valley, Score 25-20 (2025)
Fountain Valley – Baron Field (FVHS)
In a game full of intensity, big plays, and plenty of flags, Marina outlasted Fountain Valley 25-20 on Wednesday night. With both teams trading momentum throughout, the Vikings sealed the win late in the fourth quarter behind the steady play of quarterback Delilah Meza and a defense that came up clutch on fourth downs.
It was the first time this season Marina had its full roster back in rotation, and the impact showed. Meza was efficient through the air, completing 26 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for two short scores that ultimately put the game away.
Marina jumped out early in the first quarter when Meza connected with Sofia Naylonnavarette on a 28-yard touchdown strike. Fountain Valley answered in the second, as their freshman quarterback showed her speed on a 50-yard run to tie the game before adding another touchdown before halftime to go up 13-6.
The Vikings battled back in the third quarter. Meza used a series of completions to Jolie Densmore and Naylonnavarette to drive inside the 5-yard line, then punched it in herself to cut the deficit to 13-12. Marina’s defense then stood tall, stopping FV on 4th down deep in the red zone to keep the game within reach.
The fourth quarter proved decisive. Meza found Lola Bradbury for a 20-yard gain before hitting Rylee Bradley for a touchdown to put Marina back in front. Later, Meza connected with Emma Prelle on a 32-yard bomb to the 1-yard line, setting up her second rushing touchdown of the night. Naylonnavarette added the PAT reception to extend the lead. Fountain Valley mounted a late charge, aided by penalties, but Marina’s defense forced enough stops to hold on for the win.
On offense, Densmore was a workhorse with 10 receptions for 98 yards, consistently moving the chains. Bradley added five catches for 46 yards and a touchdown, while Prelle (43 yards) and Naylonnavarette (41 yards, TD) provided key plays.
Defensively, Hannah Meyer and Naylonnavarette each recorded three sacks, with Hannah Meyer adding six tackles. Densmore (eight tackles) and Bradley (six tackles) anchored the flag-pulling effort, while Matilda Nguyen sparked special teams with 28 return yards.
The victory Marina’s grit and balance, overcoming penalties and mistakes to secure a hard-fought Sunset League win. Marina will hit the road to face Saint Joseph on Monday, September 8. Fountain Valley has a quick turnaround and will take on Pacifica at home on Thursday, September 4.
