Newport Harbor Defense Stops Edison PAT to Secure Win, Score 7-6 (2025)

It wasn’t pretty, but Newport Harbor found a way to stay unbeaten Monday afternoon, grinding out a narrow 7-6 win over Edison at Sailor Stadium. The Sailors’ defense came up clutch once again, while quarterback Scarlett Guyser did just enough to keep Harbor’s perfect season alive at 12-0.

After a scoreless first half highlighted by defensive stops and turnovers, the Sailors broke through in the third quarter. Guyser powered in a 3-yard rushing touchdown with four minutes left in the frame, then added a point-after pass to Blakely Irvine to give Harbor a 7-0 lead.

Edison responded immediately to start the fourth quarter, dialing up a trick play for an 18-yard touchdown on a double pass from the flat. The PAT attempt failed, keeping the Sailors ahead 7-6. From there, Harbor’s defense held strong. Cooper Dick and the secondary locked down in the final minutes, and Edison’s last drive stalled before midfield.

Statistically, Guyser was the difference-maker, contributing both the touchdown run and PAT through the air, while throwing for over 100 passing yards on the day. Irvine added 40 receiving yards, including the key PAT grab. On defense, Edison’s unit kept things close with two interceptions from Addison La Trobe and Rylyn Jones, but couldn’t find the final stop.

The result marked Newport Harbor’s sixth straight win over Edison, a rivalry streak that remains intact. The Sailors remain on the very top of the Sunset League, while Edison falls to 6-3 after the heartbreaking one-point loss.

Newport Harbor is on the road against Fountain Valley on Monday, September 15, while Edison looks to bounce back on Wednesday, September 10 against Marina at home.
