Newport Harbor Delivers Their Fifth Shutout Against Los Alamitos, Extends Perfect Start (2025)

Newport Harbor continued its dominant start to the season on Wednesday night, blanking Los Alamitos 21-0 on the road. The Sailors’ defense posted its second straight shutout, while the offense leaned once again on quarterback Scarlett Guyser to control the game.

After a scoreless first quarter, Harbor broke through midway through the second. Guyser capped a drive with a six-yard rushing touchdown, then hit Skylie Cid for the point-after to put the Sailors up 7-0. Just minutes later, Cid added to the momentum with a six-yard rushing score, and Guyser connected with Cooper Dick on the PAT to stretch the lead to 14-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Guyser struck again on the ground, breaking free for a five-yard touchdown run. She followed it up with her second PAT pass of the night to Cid, sealing the Sailors’ 21-0 victory.

Guyser was the centerpiece of the offense, finishing with 140 total passing yards, 60 total rushing yards and adding two rushing touchdowns to her stat line. Cid contributed on both ends, scoring once on the ground and hauling in two PATs. Dick also played a key role in the passing game, with three receptions for 30 yards and a successful PAT.

On the defensive side, Newport Harbor suffocated Los Alamitos from start to finish, forcing short possessions and preventing the Griffins from finding any rhythm. Consistent pressure up front and reliable flag pulling in the secondary ensured the shutout stayed intact.

With the win, Newport Harbor improves to 8-0, building momentum as the top ranked team in the Sunset League. Los Alamitos falls to 2-2 on the season, hoping to turn things around in their next match.
