Newport Harbor Stays Perfect, Tops Marina in Sunset League Matchup, Score 27-7 (2025)

Newport Harbor extended its unbeaten run with a 27-7 victory over Marina on Tuesday night, leaning once again on quarterback Scarlett Guyser to lead the way. The sophomore star accounted for four touchdowns and over 225 total yards as the Sailors improved to 16-1.

The Sailors wasted no time getting on the board. On the first offensive play of the game, Guyser hit Aliyah Chappell on a 50-yard touchdown bomb, then followed with a point-after pass to Skylie Cid for a quick 7-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, Guyser added a 10-yard rushing touchdown, with Cid punching in the PAT on the ground to make it 14-0.

Marina battled back early in the second quarter with a double-pass trick play from midfield, led by quarterback Delilah Meza, that went the distance for a touchdown, plus a short PAT to cut the deficit to 14-7. But Harbor responded before the half: Guyser connected with Cooper Dick on a 30-yard strike to set up a 2-yard QB sneak for another score. She then ran in the PAT herself, giving the Sailors a 21-7 halftime lead.

The Vikings’ defense stiffened in the second half, but Guyser capped the scoring with a 4-yard rushing touchdown midway through the third quarter. Harbor’s defense did the rest, holding Marina scoreless over the final two quarters.

Guyser finished for 190 passing yards and a passing touchdown, while rushing for 51 yards and three touchdowns. Chappell had four catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Dick paced the receiving corps with six receptions for 81 yards. Defensively, Cid anchored the Sailors with eight tackles, and Ava Mortensen added a sack.

The win pushed Newport Harbor to 16-1, while Marina fell to 3-10. Corona del Mar hosts Newport Harbor on Monday for a Battle of the Bay game, while Marina looks to regroup against Huntington Beach the same evening.
