Newport Harbor Sweeps Marina, Sets Sights on Playoffs After 10-4 Win (2025)
Newport Beach – Stuart Fine Field (NHHS)
The Sailors wrapped up their regular season on a high note Friday afternoon, overpowering the Vikings 10-4 at home behind a balanced offensive attack and a solid start from Lucas Perez. Newport Harbor wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in each of the first four innings to build a cushion that would hold the rest of the way.
The scoring started in the bottom of the first when Lucas Perez singled to shortstop, driving in Ryan Williams, who had reached on a single and moved into scoring position on a groundout. The Sailors broke things wide open in the second with a five-run outburst. Adam Martin drove in Michael Vassiliev with a single to center to make it 2-0. Moments later, Gavin Guy drew a bases-loaded walk, plating Parker Chavez to extend the lead. Perez followed with his second RBI single of the day, scoring Williams. Wyatt Gahm then laced a two-run double to center, bringing home Martin and Guy to push the lead to 6-0.
In the fourth inning, Gahm’s second double of the game sparked another scoring opportunity. He drove in Guy, with Elijah Haseth immediately after scoring Gahm and Perez, giving the Sailors a 9-0 lead. Elijah Haseth followed with his own score on a wild pitch to make it a commanding 10-0.
Marina finally responded in the sixth inning when Nick Mizoguchi delivered a three-run homer to right field, scoring himself, Luke Pratali, and Matthew Dean cutting the Sailor lead to 10-3. The Vikings added one more in the seventh on a groundout by Lucas Harmicar, scoring Fisher Veal from third.
