Oilers Stay Hot Behind Shaia’s Three-TD Performance vs. McClatchy, Score 27-6 (2025)
Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field (HBHS)
The Huntington Beach Oilers continued their midseason surge with another commanding performance, defeating the McClatchy Lions 27-6 on Friday to secure their seventh consecutive victory.
Junior quarterback Roxie Shaia led the charge once again, completing 87.5% of her passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns, marking one of her most efficient outings of the season. Shaia finished with a 141.5 passer rating, the highest she’s posted since early September.
The Oilers wasted little time finding the end zone. On the opening drive, Shaia hit Brianna Massion for a 10-yard touchdown, followed by a successful one-point conversion from Shaia to Kate Ross. The junior quarterback struck again in the second quarter, connecting with Massion on a 35-yard scoring play before finding Shelby Nguyen on a 3-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 20-0 by halftime.
In the third quarter, Daisy Quatman added to the total with a 6-yard rushing touchdown, capping a drive fueled by short completions and strong blocking. Nguyen tossed to Taylor Savage for the extra point to make it 27-0. McClatchy managed a late score in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.
The win showcased Huntington Beach’s balance on both sides of the ball. Massion continued her breakout season with seven receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns, while Nguyen contributed 42 total yards and a touchdown through the air. Defensively, the Oilers pressured the Lions all game long, forcing quick throws and limiting yards after the catch.
McClatchy, who entered the game on an eight-game win streak, was held to just one touchdown and 6-of-12 on third-down conversions.
With the victory, Huntington Beach improved to 11-1, extending their dominance against out-of-area opponents and proving why they remain one of California’s top flag football programs.
