Oilers Stay Hot on Senior Night, Hold Off Foothill, Score 21–14 (2025)
Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field (HBHS)
On an electric Senior Night at Cap Sheue Field, the Huntington Beach Oilers relied on early execution and timely defense to secure a 21–14 victory over Foothill, keeping their Epsilon League title hopes alive and extending their winning streak to six games.
Huntington Beach (7–1, 3–0) wasted no time setting the tone on the opening drive. Quarterback Brady Edmunds methodically led the offense 80 yards down the field, mixing short passes with inside runs to keep the Foothill defense off balance. Senior running back Nathan Villanueva capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge, putting the Oilers on top 7–0 after Jason Dunham’s extra point.
The Oilers’ passing attack clicked into high gear midway through the second quarter when Edmunds connected with his favorite target, Troy Foster, on a perfectly placed 42-yard touchdown strike. Foster, who continues to dominate opposing secondaries, showed off his elite route-running and strong hands, shaking loose from double coverage to double the Huntington Beach lead.
Foothill (3–5, 1–2) struggled to find rhythm offensively through the first three quarters, as the Oiler defense consistently disrupted the pocket and closed down running lanes. Huntington Beach’s pressure forced multiple errant throws and limited the Knights to negative rushing yards in the first half.
In the third quarter, Edmunds and Foster linked up again — this time on a 12-yard slant route that Foster caught in stride and turned into his second touchdown of the night. The score gave Huntington Beach a commanding 21–0 lead, and it appeared the Oilers were on their way to another comfortable victory.
But Foothill refused to go away quietly. Early in the fourth quarter, quarterback Jake Lind found Derek Simecek deep down the left sideline for a 51-yard touchdown to breathe life into the Knights. After a defensive stop, Foothill pieced together a late drive capped by Fysher Jamieson’s 1-yard score, cutting the deficit to 21–14 with under a minute remaining. However, Huntington Beach’s special teams unit recovered the ensuing onside kick to preserve the win.
Edmunds finished 16-of-26 for 219 yards and two touchdowns, while Foster caught six passes for 117 yards and both scores. Steel Kurtz added four receptions for 55 yards and contributed on the ground, while Villanueva added 11 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Gavin Seguin led the way with 2.5 sacks, Maxson Borgquist added six tackles and a sack, and Maxx Hopkins and Jimmel Champion each recorded interceptions. Huntington Beach held Foothill to just 17 rushing yards on 26 attempts and only 198 total yards overall.
Next week, the Oilers travel to Crean Lutheran for a showdown with the Epsilon League title on the line — a matchup that will determine the league champion and playoff positioning heading into November.
