Rylee, Meza Lead Marina Past Woodrow Wilson in Road Victory (2025)

Long Beach – Stephens Field (WWHS)

Marina’s girls flag football team picked up its first regular season victory on the road Monday night, defeating Woodrow Wilson 21-12 in a game that saw big offensive performances and timely defensive stops.

The Vikings came out strong in the opening quarter, moving the ball down the field with efficiency. Quarterback Delilah Meza capped off the drive by finding Rylee Bradley for a 10-yard touchdown to make it 7-0. Later in the quarter, Marina nearly struck again on a trick play from Meza to Jolie Densmore, but the ball was dropped near the end zone.

In the second quarter, the Vikings continued to push the pace. A 45-yard strike from Meza to Bradley appeared to give Marina another score, but it was called back for an illegal pass, much to the frustration of head coach Hart, who argued her quarterback was still behind the line of scrimmage. Marina quickly regrouped, however, as Meza connected with Bradley again, this time for a 40-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0 at halftime.

Wilson fought back in the third quarter, capitalizing on a Marina turnover when a pick-six at the five-yard line gave the Bruins their first points. On the ensuing extra-point attempt, Matilda Nguyen came up with an interception to keep Wilson from closing the gap further. Wilson scored again later in the quarter to cut the deficit to 14-12, but once again Marina’s defense stood tall. A two-point try was denied when Emma Prelle intercepted the ball in the end zone.

With the game tightening, Meza and the offense delivered in the fourth. A key 12-yard run by the quarterback extended a drive and drained valuable clock. Moments later, she connected with Bradley on a 30-yard pass down the middle, setting up another scoring opportunity. With just over a minute to play, Meza and Bradley linked up again for an 18-yard touchdown, and Meza added the extra point on a run to seal the 21-12 victory.

Bradley was unstoppable, finishing with seven catches for 125 yards, two touchdowns, and an extra point, including big plays of 40 and 30 yards. Meza was equally impressive, completing 18 passes for 204 yards, two touchdowns, and two extra points, while also rushing for 21 yards and a score.

Defensively, Marina made their mark with 17 tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions, including Prelle’s clutch pick in the end zone and Nguyen’s turnover that swung momentum in the third.

The win marked a key step forward for Marina, who showed resilience after a quiet opener and earned their first regular season victory of the year. Marina will look to carry the momentum from their first regular season win into Wednesday’s matchup on the road against El Modena. The Vikings will aim to build on their offensive rhythm and defensive toughness as they continue through the early season schedule.
