Sailors Sink Chargers Behind Guyser’s Big Performance, Score 27-7 (2025)

The Newport Harbor Sailors stayed red-hot in Sunset League play, rolling to a 27-7 road win over Edison on Wednesday night. The victory marked the Sailors’ eighth straight against the Chargers and pushed their record to 19-2 overall.

Sophomore quarterback Scarlett Guyser was unstoppable, leading the charge both on the ground and through the air. She rushed for 80 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 110 yards and a 19-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Dick. Guyser capped the scoring by finding Jocelyn DeTemple on the point after to make it 27-7 in the fourth quarter.

Newport Harbor jumped ahead early as Guyser scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and added a 1-yard TD run midway through the second. She struck again just before halftime with a 5-yard rushing score, followed by a PAT pass to Blakely Irvine, sending the Sailors into the break up 20-0.

Edison found life in the third quarter, capitalizing on good field position to punch in their lone touchdown and cut the deficit to 20-7. But Newport Harbor responded with authority in the fourth, as Guyser connected with Dick on a 19-yard touchdown pass, sealing the game for good.

Defensively, the Sailors made sure Edison couldn’t gain momentum. Skylie Cid and Cooper Dick each recorded interceptions, part of a three-pick effort by the Newport secondary that kept the Chargers off balance all day.

The win was another statement from Newport Harbor, who remain neck-and-neck with Huntington Beach in the league standings. Edison’s loss, meanwhile, snapped their four-game home winning streak and dropped them to 14-9 overall.
