Shaia and Nguyen Lead Huntington Beach Past Griffins for 16th Straight Victory, Score 34-0 (2025)

Huntington Beach – ‘Cap’ Sheue Field (HBHS)

The Huntington Beach Oilers extended their winning streak to 16 games on Monday night, delivering another dominant performance in a 34-0 shutout victory over Los Alamitos. The win improved the Oilers’ record to 20-1, while the Griffins fell to 6-9 on the season.

Junior quarterback Roxie Shaia continued her remarkable run of form, completing 25 of 35 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns. It marked the fourth straight game in which Shaia has thrown three or more touchdowns, and her efficiency was on full display with a 71.4% completion rate.

The Oilers came out sharp from the start. Shaia opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Shelby Nguyen, giving Huntington Beach an early lead. In the second quarter, Shaia added another score with a short toss to Brianna Massion, who later broke free for an 18-yard rushing touchdown on a designed run play. Nguyen and Shaia connected again on a 2-point conversion, pushing the lead further.

Moments later, Huntington Beach’s defense joined the scoring effort. Nguyen jumped a route for a 40-yard interception return touchdown, turning defense into offense and giving the Oilers a commanding 27-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Shaia connected with Taylor Savage on a 5-yard strike to make it 34-0, capping another efficient offensive night. Savage finished with 77 receiving yards, while Massion added 34 yards through the air. Quatman contributed 29 total yards, including 21 on the ground and a touchdown.

Defensively, Huntington Beach was just as impressive. Zaahra Bhakta led the charge with two sacks, while Meleah Benedict and Sierra Benedict each added one. The Oilers’ front consistently pressured Los Alamitos quarterback Ava Seedorf, who completed 16 passes for 100 yards and one interception.

Los Alamitos’ defensive bright spot came from Olivia Quick, who notched four of the Griffins’ five sacks in the loss.

With the shutout, Huntington Beach has now held opponents to an average of just 7.2 points per game this season. The Oilers will look to keep the momentum going Wednesday night when they host San Marcos at 7:00 p.m.
